Japanese ROMhacker Messatu (available here on Twitter and Wordpress) has done some crazy stuff with the Famicom ports of the Gradius series games. His extensive hacks improve the ports to inconceivable levels, completely remastering them into substantially superior experiences much more comparable to the original arcade releases. With his permission I'm going to detail the process in English for patching the Famicom version of Gradius (as well as Salamander, TwinBee, etc.) using a Windows computer so you can enjoy these wonderful hacks.
